All Summer Abroad and Global Internships programs require a $300 program deposit at the time of application.
If accepted to a program, the $300 deposit will be applied towards the program fee. If you request to withdraw your application prior to an admission decision being issued or cancel your participation after being accepted to the program, the deposit will still be charged to your CalCentral account.
The program deposit is only refundable under the following circumstances:
- If you are denied admission by Berkeley Study Abroad
- If you are waitlisted and you choose not to apply to any other open programs
- If the program you applied to is canceled by Berkeley Study Abroad
-
By appeal due to extenuating circumstances. In cases where a student is unable to participate in a program due to circumstances beyond their control, an appeal for a refund may be submitted for review. For example, a refund appeal may be approved for the following circumstances:
- Personal medical emergency that prevents travel
-
Death in the family (as verified by official documentation)
Please note that for continuing UC Berkeley students, the deposit will be charged to your CalCentral account at the time you apply. Students eligible for financial aid can wait until their summer aid is disbursed to pay the deposit but remain responsible for the full deposit if they withdraw their application before an application decision is issued, or withdraw their participation from the program after acceptance. Any payments made in CalCentral are applied towards outstanding fees prior to being applied to the deposit.
If you are a student at a University other than UC Berkeley (visiting students), you will receive an email from UC Berkeley asking you to set up your university credentials (CalNet ID and passphrase) within 24 hours of submitting your application. Please note that this email does NOT constitute admission to the program. Once you have completed the necessary steps outlined in the email, log in to CalCentral to pay your $300 deposit. If you fail to make the $300 deposit within 48 hours of application submission, your application will be canceled.
